On this particular evening, again, it was cold. So we had picked an inside spot for their pictures. Seeing as I don't have a studio of my own, I sometimes have to get a little creative with inside locations. We went the Herrick District Public Library, and it was great. The kids were definitely distracted by all the books, but they were adorable as well. I think you'll agree, we got some great shots - candid and some posed.
After being inside, we went outside for a couple of pictures, although the cold made us come back inside pretty quick.

Well, although it is winter now, I have been behind on a few blog posts. So now is the time to catch up. Think back to when it was only slightly chilly and not freezing weather. It was nice to go for a walk outside and the falling leaves made it extra special. It also happened to be the time when a certain little girl was 18 months old and her lovely parents wanted to document how much she had grown. And grown she has. Enjoy the pictures of the beautiful Arawyn Do.
So, I just couldn't help myself. My sister is SOOOO beautiful and by the way, it's her BIRTHDAY! TODAY! And her first born is due in just a few weeks! Audrey, you. just. glow. I can't wait to meet your little one and see the wonderful mother you will be :)
You guessed right! My sister is having a baby - and I am thrilled to soon be an aunt! So thrilled that I was able to take some pictures of my lovely sister, baby Weelo (for Wee little one), and her husband. Here is the sneak peek of their session. It was that day this past week, when it felt like spring....oh yeah. Stay tuned to the blog for more of their baby bump session.
Well, we couldn't have asked for better weather in late November. The sunset was gorgeous at Boatwerks in Holland, MI and being on the water, with the love of their lives was just where Chelsea and Anthony wanted to be. Having been married in October in a land far, far away - okay not that far, but they still wanted to celebrate with those they love in Michigan. It was my pleasure to join them for an evening of romance, fun and re-living the memories of t heir wedding day all over again. We began with just the two of them and catching their love on camera outside... I couldn't decide which I like better, the color version or the black and white - so I'll let you choose which you prefer. Chelsea's smile lit up the whole evening with warmth, laughter and the obvious-ness of being in love. Then it was time to head inside to greet all of the lovely guests. So many wonderful people to share in this celebration. And time for the food. A little mood lighting. And he reeled her in for a kiss. Congratulations Chelsea and Anthony! I wish you the best and thank you so much for letting me celebrate with you, your friends and family!
On this chilly fall day, it was a pleasure to enter the warm house with sunlight streaming through the windows. And warm not just in the physical sense, but in every sense of the word. I always feel so welcome when I'm with the Bordenkirchers. I feel welcome to be at their home, welcome to be who I am, and welcome to have fun. It is a wonderful feeling - especially as you are just about to photograph their family. Thank you so much for making me feel welcomed and able to be myself Bordenkirchers. It was a pleasure to capture your family just as it is - joyful, fun, loving, caring, tender hearted, and overwhelmed with peace (even if you don't sense it - others do). I love random dog visits from those nearby. Tony and Christen, you are wonderful parents and it is seen all over Sam's smiley face. I am so thankful I have come to know you and wish you the best as God uses you to do amazing things!
Someone once told me it was good luck for it to rain on your wedding day - and as it rained on my special day, I like to think that is true. However, it doesn't always seem like good luck as it is happening, but something that I loved about this rainy wedding day, is that it didn't diminish the excitement at all. Rachel and Logan were so happy and excited to start their beautiful beginning. And this is how the day began... And when they were all dressed up, they were ready to see each other for the first time that day. And although it was cold outside, the rain did let up for an hour or so allowing us to great some more great photos of their special day. Rachel had the ring bearer give this note to Logan after he walked down the aisle, right before she was about to make her grand entrance. Loved this sweet idea! And as the guests waited for Rachel and Logan to dismiss them, there was a slide show for them all to enjoy. Great planning Rachel! (And I caught her sister enjoying the slide show as well). And off they were to begin their beautiful beginning! I had so much fun Rachel and Logan and loved every minute of capturing your special day. You and your families were so wonderful to work with! Blessings upon your marriage and your future life together :)
Well, it's always interesting to meet your bride on the day of the wedding, and even more interesting when the bride and groom's names are those of your actual brother and sister, but as I walked up to meet Audrey just before taking my first photos of the day, I could already tell she was a wonderful mom and a stunning bride. The day got off to a great start in Grand Rapids - a few delays, but most weddings don't go exactly as planned. Thankfully the weather stayed nice for us. Oh, and there were some crazy clouds alright, but in the midst of those were beautiful moments of sunshine and happiness. It's always great to keep light-hearted. And off to the ceremony and reception hall... Scott and Audrey, I wish you all the best. It was a pleasure to capture you, your adorable children and such a memorable day!
So sometimes, the mood of a session and the atmosphere you desire can all be linked back to beautiful light at the right time of day. I met Rachel a few months ago as we talked about her upcoming wedding. I was so excited because she has been absolutely wonderful to work with and I met Logan the night of their engagement shoot and we got off to a wonderful start. We started at her parents wonderful country home with great nooks and nature for the perfect portraits. We later headed to a house and used their barn, and then also a delightful park. Many locations, 2 great people who are truly in love, and a fantabulous wedding in the works. I can't wait to photograph the love you share Rachel & Logan! Almost here! Rachel and Logan, may your lives be filled with love!
So I head off towards the Lakeshore. Th e air is warm and the sun is shining. What a perfect night for a photo shoot! I arrive at the McCormick's home, or what I think is the McCormicks - having never met the people before, but having conversed through email I was pretty sure I was in the right place. So I remain in the car a little to see if someone emerges from the house. I can be an extrovert, but only in certain situations and this was not one of them. Thankfully shortly after I arrived, Brian (the dad) came out of the house to take the trash out. With a smile on his face he greeted me and told me to head on in to see Sara and meet the kids. What a wonderful welcome! At this point, I knew it was going to be a good night. As I head in to see Sara, she is all excited and her sweet spirit exudes kindness. The kids came downstairs shortly after Sara and I talked about possible props and locations around their beautiful home and it was a pleasure to meet them. We then all headed outside for a night full of fun, giggles, and lots of moving around. :) And as I soon discovered, Max was the most energetic of the bunch. I loved his spirit and he had some great ideas - and some were just for fun. After some of everyone, we took a few of just the kids. And then we headed to the front of the house. Thank you so much McCormick's for such a wonderful evening! I felt very welcome and it is always a pleasure to meet such a wonderful, fun-loving family.
